Trapping Song Birds
16th October 2005
On the 16 October 2005 another three trappers were caught red-handed
at three different locations.
In this picture you can see a goldfinch that has just been caught
in a net.
As you can see, the bird’s vulnerable body is completely twisted
and its head can almost touch its own tail feathers!
The risk of injury is extremely high.
It is clearly visible that the trap’s metal frame shut only millimetres
away from the bird’s head.
Needless to say, this involves a very high risk of injury to the
bird. Next to the captured goldfinch
you can see a thistle used to lure the bird into the trap.
This bird is rescued and eventually set free by animal rights
activists.
This picture shows crossbills, frequently used to lure other birds.
The crossbill on the left is still red
and was caught only two weeks ago, according to the hunter’s statement.
The yellow crossbill on the left has been held in captivity for
almost a year
This great tit must have been scared to death during its capture
and examination.
Fortunately it was released again for it had been caught accidentally.
This goldfinch, used to lure other birds, desperately tries to
escape from the cage.
