VGT at a glance
VGT is an animal rights organisation aiming to end all
exploitation of nonhuman animals by humans, promoting the
vegan lifestyle on all levels. VGT’s main activities are
directed towards creating durable and effective solutions
to prevent ongoing animal abuse. In order to achieve this
goal, VGT focuses on raising social consciousness and improving
legislation through political lobbying and public relations.
- Founded in: 1992
- Members and supporters: around 18.000
- Two activist-groups in Vienna, and one each in Wr. Neustadt,
Linz, Graz, Innsbruck and Salzburg
- The VGT journal ‘Tierschutz konsequent’ appears 3 times
a year to a distribution of 25,000. It is roughly 36 pages
long.
- Austria’s representative in the ECFA (European Coalition
for Farm Animals)
- Member of the VÖT (Union of Austrian Animal Protection
Organisations)
- Project ‘Animal Issues in School’ in Vienna, Lower Austria
and North-Burgenland
- Initiator and operator of the union spanning platform
‘United
Creatures’.
- Organizer of national and international congress’ in
Vienna: Tierrechtskongress,
Animal
Conference.
- Joint organizer of the annual Veganmania – Festivals
for Animal Rights and the vegan lifestyle, in most counties
of Austria.
- Organiser of annual national and international Animal
Liberation Workshops “ALW”
- Joint organizer of the yearly ‘Veganmania – Festivals
for Animal Rights’ in several state capitals of Austria.
