5th September International Solidarity Demos
Following the release of the Austrian animal protection
prisoners on 2nd September. Groups around the world shared
the relief felt by the movement in Austria. However, it
was also recognised that the danger is not over. The case
has not been dropped and the misuse of the anti-Mafia
law remains: The campaingers are still accused with section
278a of the Austrian criminal code. This continued threat
was reason enough for many international groups to go
ahead with their events for the global day of solidarity
on 5th September.
Protests took place outside numerous Austrian embassies
and in front of UN buildings. Groups handed over letters
to diplomats to be given to Austrian heads of state reminding
them that the situation has not yet been satisfactorily
resovled.
